
Chow mein must be one of the most popular dishes in western Chinese restaurants. It's very easy to make and seriously tasty. You could also make it with chicken, beef, prawns or tofu.

500 grams pork tenderloin or loin chops
200 grams medium egg noodles
1 tsp Chinese 5-spice powder
1 tsp sea salt
1 tsp ground black pepper
3 tbsp vegetable oil
1 tbsp sesame oil
225 grams canned sliced water chestnuts
1 small red pepper
1 small green pepper
1 medium carrot
thumb-sized piece of fresh ginger
3 cloves garlic
3 spring onions
50 grams mangetout or sugar-snap peas
50 grams shiitake mushrooms
50 grams bean sprouts
2 tbsp demerara sugar
4 tbsp dark soy sauce
2 tbsp mirin (rice wine) or dry sherry
2 tsp cornflour
100 ml water
2 tsp sesame seeds
2 tsp green top of spring onion
