TINTO DE VERANO - SPANISH SUMMER WINE

Introduction & method

Most people probably associate the idea of a Spanish wine-based summer drink with Sangría, but actually that's just for tourists. What Spaniards really drink in summer is Tinto de Verano (Summer Wine).

Tinto de Verano - Spanish Summer Wine Recipe

Put a load of ice cubes into a jug. Add the wine, vermouth, and lemonade or Casera. Give it a good stir, add a couple of orange wedges and serve over more ice with a slice of orange and possibly a little paper umbrella.

Ingredients & Info

•  500 ml cheap red wine
•  500 ml lemonade or Casera
•  100 ml vermouth

PLUS
*Traditionally in Spain, Tinto de Verano is made with Casera, a very dry-tasting kind of soda water. But lemonade is common too, and I find it much more palatable. To order it with lemonade in a bar, ask for tinto de verano con limón. Other ingredients: ice cubes, orange wedges and slices, a hot sunny day.
